Counselor, BSc, MMath, MA
I specialize in Internet addiction, food/sugar addiction, hoarding, other process/behavioural addictions, and alcohol/drug abuse. Internet addiction is characterized by spending an inordinate amount of time on activities such as computer gaming, social media, or cell phone use to the point that it affects one's education, employment, or relationships. In the same way that people react differently to alcohol and drugs, they also react differently to food. Food/sugar addiction can vary from someone being an excessive eater, to an emotional eater, to food addiction.
There are many paths to recovery and I work to find the one that is best suited to the individual. I draw from my scientific interests, merging evidenced-based therapeutic methods with compassion to provide an environment and experience that feels safe to the individual.
I work primarily from a client-centered model, tailoring the treatment to the individual. This may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Acceptance Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
